Rafael Nadal has been a huge Real Madrid supporter.
Former Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal has revealed that he received a message from Andy Murray as soon as Real Madrid were eliminated from the UEFA Champions League by Arsenal. Nadal has always been a huge Real Madrid supporter.
On multiple occasions, he had admitted to being a huge fan of Los Blancos. In 2020, during an interview with Corriere Dello Sport, the 22-time Grand Slam champion stated that his whole family has supported Real Madrid despite his uncle, Miguel Angel Nadal, being a former Barcelona player.
The 14-time French Open champion said (via Spanish outlet MARCA), “My dad and all my family have always been Real Madrid fans. When my uncle played for Barcelona, they encouraged him. Later he returned to Mallorca, and since then we have been divided: some are still Barcelona fans, others Real Madrid.”
Nadal also talked about former Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo and billed him as a colleague. He said, “Friend is a strong word for me. My friends are people from Manacor with whom I grew up. Cristiano Ronaldo is a companion, a colleague.”

However, Andy Murray isn’t fond of Nadal’s football choices. The Briton supports Arsenal and was content when the Gunners beat Madrid in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League last month. After the game ended, the three-time Grand Slam champion texted Nadal as he was ‘checking in’.
It took Nadal some time to realise that Murray was poking him. The Spanish tennis legend stated that he initially thought that Murray was taking a check on his health. The Spaniard told the reporters after his ceremony at Stade Roland Garros, “My good friend Andy, we were not in touch for a while. The day that Arsenal beat Real Madrid, when the match just finished, after one second, he texted me a message.”
Nadal read the message, “He told me… no I am going to read it: ‘Hey Rafa, haven’t spoken to you in a while. Just checking in to make sure you are OK.’ Honestly, it took me five seconds to realise what I was reading because, in the beginning, I said OK, he’s such a nice guy, he’s asking me how I’m doing, and my family.
“But after five seconds… always British, British sense of humour. By the way, I didn’t text him back when Inter [Milan] beat Arsenal.”
Nevertheless, the Gunners are also out of the UEFA Champions League. They lost to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) 3-1 on aggregate in the semi-finals.
