Aryna Sabalenka becomes first player to qualify for WTA Finals 2025

Aryna Sabalenka reached the final in first two slams of the season.
Aryna Sabalenka survived her toughest test yet at Wimbledon 2025, digging deep to overcome Germany’s Laura Siegemund in the quarter-finals. Down 0-3 early and broken twice within 20 minutes, the Belarusian looked out of sorts as Siegemund handed her the first set loss of her campaign.
After the opener, Sabalenka admitted she felt things looked bleak and even joked to her team about booking flights home.
However, the top seed showed her trademark resilience, roaring back to take the second set and force a decider. After Siegemund’s extended bathroom break, the German managed another early lead in the third set, but Sabalenka steadied, ultimately fighting through to secure the win.
It certainly wasn’t a convincing outing for the World No. 1, but in the end, it was just enough, as the grueling three-hour marathon ultimately swung her way.
The Belarusian qualified for her second Wimbledon semi-final, and will look to play the final at SW19 for the first time. It will also be her fourth consecutive Grand Slam final, showing her versatility and completeness across surfaces and conditions.
Aryna Sabalenka has already claimed four titles this year including the Miami Open and Madrid Open (both WTA 1000 Masters), as well as the Brisbane and Stuttgart Open, and finished as runner-up in four other WTA finals in 2025.
She will meet Amanda Anisimova in the semis, against whom she trails 3-5, but had beaten her recently at the French Open.

Sabalenka has lost two tough Grand Slam finals this year, at Australian Open where she was eyeing a three-peat, and at Roland Garros, which would have been her maiden triumph on the Parisian clay. The 26-year-old will have a chance to redeem herself at the most prestigious tournament on the tennis calendar.
Thanks to her tremendous consistency and solid performances, she currently leads the WTA Live Race with 7,395 points. With the qualification cutoff set at 7,111 points, the World No. 1 becomes the first player to officially secure her spot at the WTA Finals in Riyadh, scheduled for the end of the year.
Seven players qualify directly, along with a Grand Slam champion not inside the top seven. If two Slam winners are outside the top 7, the player with more points on the live race earns the final spot.
Coco Gauff and Madison Keys, the 2025 Grand Slam champions, are more than likely to qualify, for the event, as the French Open champion Gauff stands at #2 with 4609 points, while the Australian Open winner Keys holds the fourth position with 4105 points.
