Sabalenka now faces Spaniard Cristina Bucsa for the first time on tour in round four. Bucsa advanced to the round of 16 for the first time with a three-set win over Belgium’s Elise Mertens. The unseeded Spaniard recovered from a one-set deficit to overcome Mertens, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 in two hours and 41 minutes.

Bucsa scripted a revenge story of her own against Mertens, having lost in straight sets to the Belgian in Qatar earlier this year to go up 2–1 in their head-to-head.
