Aryna Sabalenka vs Elena Rybakina prediction, betting tips & odds, head-to-head, preview: Berlin Open 2025

A blockbuster showdown looms in Berlin, between two Grand Slam champions.
Ahead of the all-important Wimbledon Championships, tennis fans will be treated to a mouth-watering contest between two top contenders for the marquee event to follow in a couple of weeks’ time. Aryna Sabalenka, the current World No. #1, currently on a purple patch will take on one of the best female players on grass, and a former Wimbledon winner, in Elena Rybakina.
Sabalenka is playing her first grass event of 2025, after the Roland Garros heartbreak, marking her second straight Grand Slam final defeat. Out of the three surfaces, the Belarusian has least enjoyed playing on grass, but her excellent current form, could change the tide. Her biggest assessment of where her grass-game lies ahead of Wimbledon, will be tested on Friday, against the Kazakh.
Match details
- Tournament: Berlin Open 2025
- Round: Quarter-final
- Date: June 20
- Venue: Steffi Graf Stadion, Berlin, Germany
- Surface: Grass
Preview
Rybakina and Sabalenka are set to meet for the 11th time, with the top seed leading by a slender margin 6-4. However, Rybakina has the upper-hand in recent matches, despite her own dwindling form and Sabalenka enjoying her peak. They last met in 2024 WTA finals, where the Kazakh prevailed in three sets. They have faced off only once on grass, back in 2021, with Sabalenka emerging victorious then.
Rybakina rallied from a break down in both sets to eventually claim the match in straight sets against Kateřina Siniaková, while Sabalenka won her first set comfortably, before coming back the next day to get the job done in a closely fought tie-breaker.
The Kazakh is a formidable player on grass, but her form has been poor recently. However, she has the ability to produce her best against top players, highlighted by her recent record against Sabalenka. She even pushed Swiatek in their Roland Garros duel, making this a must-watch battle.

Match prediction
A lot of similarities between both these players. They are the cleanest ball strikers, and the hardest hitters currently on WTA tour. The reason why one of them is top ranked, and the other outside top-10 now, is due to the inconsistency.
Sabalenka has reduced her unforced errors count by a massive margin (Roland Garros 2025 final was a rare exception), while Rybakina has been topsy-turvy, and has struggled to maintain her dominance for the entire duration of a three-set match.
While the conditions and surface in Berlin are more suited for Rybakina’s game-style, the outcome will be dictated by the player who is able to combine aggression with precision, and handle pressure better during key moments.
Result: Aryna Sabalenka to win in three sets.
