Novak Djokovic is sixth in the Live Race to Turin.

Novak Djokovic moved back into contention for one of the eight qualifying spots for ATP Finals 2024 when he reached the title round in Shanghai Masters. The 37-year-old appeared in his 59th ATP Maters 1000 final and the first in 2024 but left Shanghai failing to win his 100th tour-level title.

Djokovic is 55 points ahead of seventh place Casper Ruud and 165 points ahead of Alex de Minaur in eighth place and the final qualifying spot. Djokovic entered the Shanghai Masters in ninth place, moving to sixth on the last after making a final run.

Casper Ruud (3,855 points) will have to reach the semi-finals of the Moselle Open, while nothing less than winning the Belgrade Open title will do for Alex de Minaur (3,745 points) if he wishes to book his ticket to Turin.

Ninth place Andre Rublev, on 3,720 points, will be competing with the Australian for the final qualifying spot. Rublev, too, like De Minaur, will have to win the Belgrade Open to have a chance at making the final eight.

The ATP 250 events at Metz and Belgrade, wrapping up on November 9, will decide the final list of the elite 8, who will then travel to Turin. Five of the eight qualifying spots have already been taken. Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev and Taylor Fritz will make their way to the ATP Finals 2024, which will be held between November 10-17.

Casper Ruud, Alex de Minaur and Andrey Rublev have all faltered with the finish line in sight. Ruud and Rublev made second-round exits at the Shanghai and Paris Masters. Alex de Minaur has performed better, making the last eight at Antwerp and Paris and the last four in Vienna.

Djokovic defeated Jannik Sinner last November to win the ATP Finals trophy for a record seventh time. The 24-time Grand Slam champion is yet to make any announcement regarding his participation, even as it looks increasingly likely that he will make the cut for the prestigious eight-man tournament.
