Novak Djokovic withdraws from ATP Finals 2024 due to injury

Novak Djokovic has officially ended his 2024 season.
Novak Djokovic has confirmed his absence in the ATP Finals 2024. He announced his withdrawal from the season ending championship via Instagram. Djokovic posted a story apologizing to his fans for his absence in the event. He mentioned that an ongoing injury has forced him to take the decision of skipping the event in Turin.
The Serbian had earlier withdrawn from ATP Paris Masters 2024 and has not played since featuring in the Six Kings Slam last month. His last ATP tour match was in the final of Shanghai Masters at the end of September. With his absence in Turin, Djokovic has ended his 2024 season early after having played 46 matches over a period of 10 months.
The world No #5 was expected to feature for the 17th time in the ATP Finals. It will also be the first time since 2017 that Djokovic will not be playing in the season ending championships. In his withdrawal announcement, he wished his rivals luck as they will be competing without the seven-time champion.
Djokovic had not specified his injury which has been troubling him as fans will be waiting to see when he makes a comeback on the ATP tour.

Novak Djokovic ends season without an ATP title for the first time in 18 years
The 2024 season saw Djokovic end the year without an ATP tour title as he secured two runner up finishes. Since winning his first title at Amersfoort in 2006, he has won atleast a title every season till 2023. It has been 18 years since Djokovic has not held an ATP tour trophy atleast once in a season.
Djokovic now needs one more ATP title to enter the triple digit title club. He also needs one more grand slam title to become the first player to win 25 majors in the history of the sport. The 2024 season saw him not capturing any grand slam for the first time since 2017. He had a chance in Wimbledon but had to settle for the runner up trophy.
The 37-year-old might have missed out on an ATP tour title and a grand slam this season but he clinched the gold medal in Paris Olympics 2024 without dropping a set. Djokovic’s trophy cabinet was only missing the Olympic gold and this season he finally gained the ultimate prize.
