Alex de Minaur becomes first Australian in two decades to qualify for ATP Finals
Alex de Minaur is the first Australian since Lleyton Hewitt to qualify for ATP Finals.
Alex de Minaur will be featuring in the ATP Finals for the first time this season. With 3745 points, he was ranked eighth in the race to Turin and climbed a place above as Novak Djokovic withdrew from the event. Minaur has shined this season with consistency across the grand slams and tour events.
The 25-year-old has become the first Australian to compete in the season ending championship since Lleyton Hewitt in 2004. The former world No #1 had clinched the ATP finals in 2000 and 2001. Australian fans will finally be able to see their top player compete in the event after a long wait. Minaur joined Casper Ruud and Andrey Rublev as they claimed the final three spots for Turin.

Alex de Minaur one win away from securing milestone career mark
Minaur has played 399 career matches on the ATP tour and will be playing his 400th match in Turin, Italy. A win would see him becoming the 20th Australian to record 250 victories on the tour. Minaur has been carrying the hopes of Australia on the courts for over seven years now. This season he has achieved various benchmarks for the nation in the sport.
The 2025 season could see him scale new heights just like he did this season. The Australian Open remains the only grand slam where he is yet to enter the quarter-finals but has three consecutive fourth round exits since 2022.
Minaur will be hoping to register crucial wins at the hardcourts of Turin, his court coverage will certainly impress the crowd. Australian fans will have plenty to cheer for as three players have qualified in doubles in the event. The Aussie pair of Max Purcell/ Jordan Thompson will be in action while fellow countrymen Matthew Ebden will be playing alongside India’s Rohan Bopanna.
