Casper Ruud is also ruled out of Wimbledon because of a knee injury.

The Mallorca Open 2025 is the last ATP event before Wimbledon, with many players looking to adjust to grass conditions and regain their form. Ben Shelton, Felix Auger-Aliassime, and Alex Michelsen headline the entry list.

While the ‘big names’ are missing from this ATP-250 event, due to the unpredictable nature of grass events, some of the players performing well in Mallorca could be the dark horses to follow at the all-important All England Club. Here’s a look at the top five players who’ve pulled out of the Mallorca Open 2025.

5. Jordan Thompson

Jordan Thompson‘s season of injuries continues, as the Australian forfeited his Queen’s Club opening round match mid-way after dropping the first set. While his returns in the singles front have been disappointing, Thompson won the Libema Open doubles event alongside Matt Ebden. This latest injury would have forced him to miss Mallorca, so he could recover in time for Wimbledon.

4. Alejandro Tabilo

Alejandro Tabilo had a poor start to his season, but consecutive wins over Stan Wawrinka and Novak Djokovic in Monte Carlo have raised hopes of a better second half. But his hopes of a comeback were dashed by a left wrist injury, ruling him out of the Munich Open and then the Madrid Open.

The Chilean has now been ruled out of Mallorca and Wimbledon, due to abdominal issues, and has been replaced by China’s Bu Yunchaokete.

3. Kei Nishikori

Kei Nishikori has been out of action ever since he retired from a match at Geneva. He subsequently missed the French Open 2025 and is now slated to miss the entire grass season, having been ruled out of Wimbledon due to back injury.

That hasn’t kept him away from the media spotlight, as he was recently found guilty of cheating on his wife, to whom he’s been married since 2020, and shares two children, for allegedly having an affair with a model.

2. Gael Monfils

Gael Monfils suffered a first-round defeat at the hands of Mackenzie McDonald in Queen’s. The Frenchman is 38 years old and cannot be blamed for skipping the event to recover for the third Grand Slam of 2025. There has been no official statement yet regarding Monfils’ absence, which could point to an unknown issue or a precautionary measure for workload management.

1. Casper Ruud

Casper Ruud withdrew from the Mallorca Championships due to a lingering knee injury sustained at Roland Garros. Known for his skepticism about grass courts—famously saying “grass is for golf and not for tennis”—Ruud has skipped most grass events this season.

He will skip Wimbledon in a bid to regain full fitness for the hard-court swing. Hamad Medjedovic took the Norwegian’s place in the main draw.
