When will the Australian Open 2025 draw be announced?
The main draw of the tournament will commence from 12th January.
The 113th edition of the Australian Open will commence at Melbourne Park on Sunday, January 12. This marks the 57th tournament in the Open Era and the second consecutive year with a Sunday start, enabling the opening round to unfold over three days.
The first major Grand Slam of the year is gearing up for the main draw ceremony, which will determine the matchups in the tournament’s qualifying stage. Defending champions Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka along with tennis stars like Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic, Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff are all set to compete for the prestigious silverware.
The drawing ceremony is crucial as fans get a clear idea of who plays who as tennis athletes aim to begin the season with a bang.
Rankings are used to determine the process of match-making. For the first time since 2017, twenty-four-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic has fallen out of the top five ATP Rankings. He is seeded seventh currently and is likely to encounter title contenders in early rounds.
India’s Rohan Bopanna faces a similar worry after having parted ways with Matthew Ebden. Due to a late decision, the Indian veteran made a late call to partner with the only available seeded player, who’s seeded 47. In contrast to the last couple of years, when the Indo-Australian duo have regularly found themelves ranked inside top five, Bopanna will now face a formidable lineup in his quest to defend the crown.

When will the Australian Open 2025 draw ceremony take place?
The event is scheduled to take place on Thursday, January 9 at 9:00 AM IST at the steps of the iconic Margaret Court Arena. Craig Tiley, the event director, and Wayne McKewen, the officiating director, will oversee the proceedings alongside former Australian players Todd Woodbridge and Jelena Dokic.
Special guests will include defending champions, Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka, who will enter the venue carrying the silverware they had lifted last year. According to tradition, the top 32 seeds among the 128 participants will be placed in separate sections, avoiding each other in the first round.
Additionally, the top eight athletes will not face each other until the quarterfinals to ensure the best athletes in the game battle each other in the business end of the competition fostering higher viewership and nerve-wrecking encounters.
The drawing ceremony is a key pre-event ahead of the season’s first major Grand Slam tournament. The 2025 Australian Open promises sensational rallies and contests between established players, while providing a platform to rising talents. At the same time, the marquee event could stir shocking upsets and potentially draw curtains on careers.
