Coco Gauff vs Jodie Anna Burrage prediction, lineups betting tips & odds, head-to-head, preview: Australian Open 2025
Coco Gauff did not win a single Grand Slam major in 2024.
Coco Gauff’s start to the new season has been brilliant, marked by victories over top WTA players including Karolina Muchova and Iga Swiatek in the semifinals and finals of the 2024-25 United Cup respectively. She almost single-handedly led her nation to their second United Cup triumph and entered the Australian Open 2025 as the third seed.
In Melbourne, the American started confidently against fellow American and former Grand Slam Champion, Sofia Kenin, who despite her best efforts could win only six games across both sets, eventually losing 6-3 6-3. Though Gauff wasn’t at her fluent best (including eight double faults), the American managed to get the better of Kenin to proceed the new round.
After defeating Aryna Sabalenka in the 2023 US Open final, Gauff has had a barren run in major slam and given her ongoing patch, the 20-year-old would favour her chances. Last year, she was beaten by the Belarusian in the semis of the 2024 Australian Open and then lost to Jessica Pegula at the French Open semifinals.
Gauff also had a poor Paris Olympics, followed by multiple early exits in subsequent competitions, including the US Open where she was defending her title. The American though reminded everyone of her prowess at the WTA Finals, defeating Iga Swiatek and Qinwen Zheng to finish the year on a high.

Preview
Coco Gauff has won all her matches in 2025 and will hope to carry her form in the initial rounds at the Australian Open. After a thumping win over Sofia Kenin, the American has reminded everyone of her abilities when she gets going.
Jodie Anna Burrage, her opponent for the second round, commenced the 2025 season in ASB Classic qualifiers where she first triumphed over Vivian Yang, but lost to Hailey Baptiste in the subsequent round. She then participated in the Adelaide International but failedto qualify for the final round, losing to Leylah Fernandez in the qualifiers.
Using a protected ranking, Burrage qualified for the final round of the Australian Open in 2025. In the first round, she faced Leolia Jeanjean and managed to win the encounter rather comfortably. However, in her next round, the British faces a much tougher prospect, as she takes on the 2023 US Open winner.

Match Prediction
Coco Gauff is the second-best contender running for the championship, according to the odds prior to the start of the competition and hence this second round contest should be an easy push-over for the American. Having battled against the British previously and dominated her in straight sets, the 20-year-old is certainly expected to repeat her heroics.
Gauff has recently improved her forehand which was on display during her clash against Swiatek in the final, making her a tricky customer to deal with. She has always had the big serves to rely on and when in rhythm, can beat anyone and everyone. Despite her dominant triumph in round one, she seemed sluggish with plenty of unforced errors and double faults.
While a win is on the cards for the American, she will want to have a flawless game heading into the business stage of the marquee event.
Prediction: Coco Gauff to win in straight sets
