Australian Open 2025: Updated schedule, fixtures, results, live streaming details
Sabalenka and Sinner have a good chance to create history at the Australian Open 2025.
A year ago, Djokovic was the favourite to win a record eleventh Australian Open title. After all, the Serbian had won the previous four finals in Melbourne. The Australian Open which ushers in the 2025 Grand Slam season, has witnessed a change in the event favourites. In the latest twist in men’s tennis, Novak Djokovic defied age to set up a three-way battle with Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.
Sinner took over the mantle as the player to watch in 2025 with a comprehensive win over Djokovic in the 2024 Australian semi-finals. The Italian went on to the 2024 US Open as well. Alcaraz won the other two Grand Slams of the 2024 season – the French Open and Wimbledon. The Spaniard retained the Wimbledon trophy by defeating Djokovic for a second year running in the title round at SW19.

Djokovic who claimed the Olympic gold at the 2024 Paris Games will open against American wildcard Nishesh Basavareddy. Novak Djokovic is seeded seventh in the 2025 edition and could clash with Alcaraz in the last eight.
The presence of Jack Draper and Grigor Dimitrov in the same part of the draw as Djokovic and Alcaraz will keep both men busy. Finally, the No. 1 seed on the men’s side Jannik Sinner will face a tricky opening against Nicolas Jarry and a potential last-eight clash against Aussie Alex de Minaur. Alexander Zverev leads the bottom half of the draw as the second seed and is a potential title round opponent for the players in the draw’s top half.
Looking at the women’s tour, Aryna Sabalenka upset Iga Swiatek’s apple cart with a dominant second half of the season as the WTA season moved into the hard court phase of the calendar. Sabalenka defended her 2023 Australian Open title and also added the US Open trophy to her growing collection. The Belarusian will be the woman to beat in the women’s draw as she eyes a Melbourne three-peat.
Sabalenka’s closest competitor on the hard courts of Melbourne will be Coco Gauff. The American player defeated Sabalenka in the last four of the WTA Finals in Riyadh and won the competition in its inaugural Riyadh edition. Gauff was a semi-finalist in 2024 and will be looking to do one better this season. She will open against fellow countrywoman Sofia Kenin, while Sabalenka will begin her AO 2025 campaign against another American, Sloane Stephens.

The men’s doubles champions of the 2024 season, Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden have gone their separate ways. It means a new doubles pair will lift the trophy at the end of the Australian Open fortnight. The Belgian–Taiwan duo of Su-wei Hsieh and Elise Mertens were victorious in the women’s doubles draw in 2024 and would not mind a second victory in Melbourne in 2025.
Ons Jabeur, Naomi Osaka and latest teen sensation Mira Andreeva will be worth keeping an eye on in the early round WTA matches.
