Madison Keys downed Aryna Sabalenka to win her maiden Slam.
Madison Keys outperformed two-time Australian Open winner Aryna Sabalenka in a thrilling encounter. The final of the women’s singles contest lived up to the expectations. The first set was thoroughly dominated by the American, which left the crowd stunned.
Sabalenka roared back in the second set, as she finally found some consistency, along with her thunderous winners thereby claiming the second set. The third set was an extremely competitive one, with Sabalenka and Keys both holding their serves easily.
The Belarusian came close to breaking, earning two break points, but Keys held her nerve to save both. The set seemed destined for a tiebreak, but the American upped the intensity in Sabalenka’s final service game, ultimately securing the set and the match.
