Jannik Sinner became the youngest male to defend his title since 1993.
The Australian Open men’s singles final proved to be a one-sided affair, with Jannik Sinner shattering several records and successfully defending his title to enter an elite list. At the age of only 23, Sinner is already Italy’s greatest tennis player, having won his third Grand Slam major.
His opponent, Alexander Zverev had no answers to Sinner’s onslaught. Though the German did fend off his serving games, he was unable to break the Italian’s serve throughout the course of the match. Sinner dropped just two sets on his route to glory, further highlighting his dominance in the marquee event.
The World No. #1 showed yet again why he is so tough to beat. His athleticism, fabulous court-coverage and ability to have answers to every riposte is what separates him from the rest of the pack. Meanwhile, in the case of Zverev, his wait for a maiden Grand Slam trophy continues.
