During the two-hour, 32-minute clash, Tsitsipas missed an opportunity to serve out the match at 5-4 in the third set, as his two double faults allowed Diaz Acosta back into the contest.

In another quarterfinal, Dusan Lajovic scored a straightforward win against Frenchman Arthur Fils in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. The veteran Serbian converted five break-points and capitalized on five double faults by his teenage opponent to reach the last four at the Barcelona Open. While Tsitsipas may have struggled to pull off a win against Diaz Acosta on Friday, staring down the barrel before securing his ninth consecutive victory, he remains the favourite to win in Barcelona.
