Botic van de Zandschulp & Arthur Gea set new US Open record with 5-hour match

Botic van de Zandschulp of the Netherlands and France’s Arthur Gea played a fourth-round thriller in the ongoing US Open 2026 on Tuesday. The match at the Grandstand lasted five hours and 13 minutes, setting a new US Open record. Van de Zandschulp completed a stunning comeback to win 3-6, 6-7(0), 7-6(7), 7-6(3), 6-4.
The five-hour-plus match was the longest in this edition of the US Open. It is also the fourth-longest in tournament history since 1991, and the sixth match to cross the five-hour mark during that period.
Gea started the match terrifically, winning the first two sets. Botic van de Zandschulp, however, refused to give up, saving a match point in the third-set tie-break.
The Dutchman capitalised on the Spaniard’s backhand volley error to force it to a fourth set. Van de Zandschulp then won another tie-break to force a deciding set, which he won 6-4.

“For me, I was looking for my form. Haven’t found it yet, but hopefully in a couple of days I find it,” Van de Zandschulp said after the match. “It’s been a crazy comeback. Five hours (and almost) 15 minutes. Still standing, so that’s a good thing.”
The Dutchman reached the US Open quarter-finals for only the second time, following his first last-eight appearance in 2021.
