Defending champions Jannik Sinner and Jessica Pegula are well-placed to make the most at the Canadian Open.

The Canadian Open 2024, like always, is a mixed ATP and WTA 1000 event. Both defending champions, Jannik Sinner and Jessica Pegula, have returned to Canada to defend their titles.

Former champions Andre Rublev, Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev will also be seen in action. Lorenzo Musetti, Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz are among the notable absentees in the men’s draw. Last year’s men’s singles finalist, Alex de Minaur, will also be sitting out of the event.

Giving women’s defending champion Jessica Pegula company in the WTA draw are the top two seeds, Coco Gauff and Aryna Sabalenka. Iga Swiatek, Elena Rybakina, Qinwen Zheng and Barbora Krejcikova will be missing the WTA 1000 event following their Olympic campaign and a crowded tennis calendar.

Last year’s WTA singles finalists Jessica Pegula and Liudmila Samsonova are in the same half of the draw and are headed for a potential semi-final clash. The ATP defending champion and World No. 1, Jannik Sinner, is seeded to meet Daniil Medvedev in the last four for a rematch of their Wimbledon quarter-final face-off.

The all-Japanese duo of Shuko Aoyama and Ena Shibahara picked up the women’s doubles trophy, and the top seeds of the current edition, Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos, helped themselves to the men’s trophy last season.

Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden are the second seeds in the doubles draw, and this could earn them a second face-off against Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos for the second time this season, this time in the title round.
