Carlos Alcaraz will face Frances Tiafoe in an exhibition match.
The first ATP 1000 Masters, Indian Wells 2025 is just around the corner featuring the best players from the current era. World No. #3 Carlos Alcaraz travelled to Puerto Rico as a stop, prior to the start of the competition.
Set to face Frances Tiafoe in an exhibition, the Spaniard is eager to enjoy the warm support of the local fans. “It’s wonderful to be in a Spanish-speaking country and hear their cheers. Every time I perform for a Latin audience, it’s an amazing experience.
I’m here to have a good time and let the people have fun,” said Alcaraz. He also expressed his excitement to try mofongo, the signature dish of Puerto Rico—and mentioned that he was even encouraged to dance upon his arrival on the island.
Upon his arrival at the airport, Alcaraz received a warm reception, greeted by a lively band and trumpet players. Dressed in a green sweatshirt and sweatpants, he embraced the moment, dancing to the music and delighting his fans.
The Spaniard has had a mixed bag season so far. Starting off with the first Grand Slam of the year, the 21-year-old lost to Novak Djokovic in the quarter-final round. The Spaniard though quickly made amends at the ATP Rotterdam event, an ATP-500 tournament. Alcaraz defeated Hubert Hurkacz in the semi-finals and Alex de Minaur in the finals, to claim his 18th career title.
The Spaniard then competed at the Qatar Open, marking his debut in Doha. Alcaraz was the top seed with Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev not featuring, but was stunned in the quarterfinals, losing to World No. #22 Jiri Lehecka.
As Alcaraz heads to the desert after the completion of the exhibition event in Puerto Rico, the 21-year-old stands on the verge of a rare-three peat. Having won the BNP Paribas Open in 2023 and 2024, defeating Daniil Medvedev on both instances, the Spaniard will favour his chances with top seed Sinner not featuring.

Djokovic with five titles holds the record for most triumphs at the desert but has been struggling with injury lately. Medvedev, after finishing as runner-up twice at the Indian Wells will be desperate for a title. Zverev, who lost the finals at the Melbourne Park, has struggled for form since. Hence conditions are currently ideal for a third title at the desert for the 21-year-old Carlos Alcaraz.
