Carlos Alcaraz’s latest ‘buzz’ haircut has caused quite an uproar at Flushing Meadows. It has taken over the headlines at US Open 2025, so much that it even shadowed his straight sets win over Reilly Opelka in the opening round on Monday.
From Frances Tiafoe to the newly Hall of Fame entrant Maria Sharapova, almost everyone has had their say on 22-year-old’s latest haircut.
Now, the entire tennis fandom has jumped in, sharing their own reviews of the world No. 2’s bold new look unveiled during his opener-round match.

A former champion at Flushing Meadows, Alcaraz began his campaign with a dominant performance, defeating the world No. 51 Opelka 6-4, 7-5, 6-4 in straight sets. But despite the victory, it was his haircut that drew most of the attention.
Even the official US Open account couldn’t resist a throwback joke, tweeting: “Welcome back, 2000 David Beckham.” The comparison to Beckham’s iconic buzz cut era instantly went viral, though not everyone agreed.
“That’s insanely disrespectful to David Beckham,” one fan posted. Another questioned: “But what does David Beckham have to do with it?”
At the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center Alcaraz was spotted courtside with golf legend Rory McIlroy, who asked him about the new style. Alcaraz laughed it off, admitting: “Just got a haircut that I struggled with. I had to start fresh.”
However, at the post-match press conference the Spaniard revealed the actual reason behind the haircut. “My brother misunderstood with the machine he cut it & the only way to fix it is to shave it off,” he explained.
Carlos added, “To be honest, it’s not that good and it’s not that bad I guess, I’m the guy who thinks like, ‘ok hair grows’ & in a few days it’s gonna be okay.”
