Top five players who have withdrawn from Charleston Open 2025

Paula Badosa is the biggest name who will not participate in the Charleston Open 2025.
The Charleston Open 2025 main draw will start on Monday, March 31. Jessica Pegula is the top seed in Charleston, followed by countrywoman Madison Keys and China’s Qinwen Zheng. Last year, Danielle Collins won the women’s singles event, and she’s seeded seventh this season.
However, a few tennis stars are missing the event due to injury or fatigue. Let’s take a look at the list:
5. Magdalena Fręch
Magdalena Fręch will miss the Charleston Open 2025. The WTA World No. 30 played at the Miami Open but lost to Romania’s Elena-Gabriela Ruse in the second round. Before that, she came up short against Lucia Bronzetti at the Indian Wells Open. Japan’s Kyōka Okamura had taken Fręch’s place in the WTA 500 event.
4. Lulu Sun
Last year’s Wimbledon breakout star Lulu Sun will also miss the WTA 500 event. Sun reached the quarterfinals of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships and later ended as a runner-up at the Monterrey Open. Since then, she has barely won matches. Zheng won two matches at Indiana Wells but later lost in the Round of 32 to China’s Qinwen Zheng. Later, she lost to Egypt’s Mayar Sherif in the first round at the Miami Open.
3. Renata Zarazúa
Mexico’s Renata Zarazúa will miss the 2025 Charleston Open. She lost to American tennis star Ashlyn Krueger in the first round of the Miami Open 6-3, 6-2. Zarazúa has played 18 matches this year, winning seven and losing 11. Australian Ajla Tomljanovic will replace the Mexican tennis star in the main draw.
2. Magda Linette
Magda Linette is set to miss the 2025 Charleston Open. The Polish tennis star reached the quarterfinals of the recently concluded Miami Open. She recorded wins over Coco Gauff, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Linda Fruhvirtova, and Ekaterina Alexandrova in the Miami Gardens before her campaign ended against Jasmine Paolini.
Linette is not missing the tournament due to injury concerns. She likely wants to rest ahead of Poland’s Billie Jean King Cup qualifying matches next week. Britain’s Harriet Dart has taken Linette’s place in the Charleston Open.
1. Paula Badosa

Former World No. 2 Paula Badosa will miss the 2025 Charleston Open due to back issues. The Spanish tennis star has been struggling with a back issue for almost two years. She reached the semifinals of the 2025 Australian Open earlier this year, where she lost to her best friend Aryna Sabalenka.
She missed the Indian Wells Masters and later withdrew from the Round of 16 of the Miami Open, where she was set to face Alexandra Eala. Thus, Badosa will miss the competition due to her back issue, as she aims to return to full fitness soon. Anna Blinkova has replaced Paula Badosa.
