Carlos Alcaraz had won his first ATP 500 event on clay in 2022.
The ATP China Open 2024 has been the stage where Carlos Alcaraz has scaled yet another landmark. After beating Jannik Sinner in the final at Beijing, he became the first player to win ATP 500 titles in hard, grass and clay courts. Alcaraz has mastered all three surfaces in such a short span in his career.
He only dropped a single set on his way to lifting the trophy in the China Open. Alcaraz did not drop a set until the final as Sinner made a dramatic comeback from 2-5 in the opening set. The Italian then witnessed Alcaraz come back from the brink of losing the match in the third set. It took the Spaniard three hours and 21 minutes to end the battle in Capital Group Diamond court.
Alcaraz also hit 55 winners in the final while his serves reached speeds of 221 km/hour. The win also marks the first time that either of the players have recorded three successive wins over each other. The 21 year old has defeated Sinner in three consecutive matches starting from the semi-finals in Indian Wells 2024.

When and where did Carlos Alcaraz win his first ATP 500 title on all three surfaces?
By winning the China Open 2024, Alcaraz claimed his first ATP 500 hardcourt title. But he had secured titles in the same tier much earlier on clay and grass courts. In the 2022 season, the youngster began by clinching the Rio Open by defeating Argentine Diego Schwartzman in straight sets. It was also his first ATP 500 title.
He dropped two sets on his way to the title. Alcaraz defeated the then top seed Matteo Berrettini in the quarter-finals as the Italian fought back into the match in the second set. Alcaraz who was seeded seventh had begun his campaign by losing the opening set against fellow countrymen Jaume Munar.
In 2023, Alcaraz claimed his first-ever grasscourt title by emerging victorious in the Cinch Championships. He defeated Australian Alex de Minaur in an hour and 39 minutes to win the ATP 500 title. He only dropped a single set on his way to a historic win.
