Carlos Alcaraz defeated Daniil Medvedev in the semi-finals of ATP China Open 2024.
The first semi-final in men’s singles of ATP China Open 2024 saw Carlos Alcaraz beating Daniil Medvedev in straight sets. Although the battle ended quicker than expected, Medvedev had a small chat with Alcaraz while they embraced each other at the net. Medvedev was seen whispering into his opponent’s ear as the Spaniard burst out laughing.
Medvedev has now revealed the chat which made Alcaraz laugh. The Russian said,’ I told Carlos next match I’m going to paint my hair blonde and put ‘Botic’ here’ (pointing to his chest). The world No #5 was referring to Botic van de Zandschulp during his chat with Alcaraz. The Dutch player had defeated Alcaraz in straight sets in the second round of US Open 2024.
It was the first instance where the world #3 had exited the US Open before the quarter-finals stage. The match shocked the fans as well as his rivals which was evident of why Medvedev joked with him.
Medvedev was hoping that he too would have a definite chance in beating the Spaniard if he dyed his hair blonde and wrote Botic in his t-shirt. The remark showed how graceful Medvedev was even in defeat as it also made Alcaraz happy. The duo battled for an hour and 27 minutes and made sure to end the match with humor. The sportsmanship spirit surely caught the attention of the fans and the crowd in Beijing.
