The Indian Davis Cup team is headed by new coach, Ashutosh Singh.
The Indian Davis Cup team has been announced for the first round match against Sweden in World Group 1. Former player Rohit Rajpal will be the captain for the squad. Sumit Nagal will be leading the attack, alongside Ramkumar Ramanathan, Sriram Balaji, Niki Poonacha and Siddharth Vishwakarma. Yuki Bhambri will not be part of the team this time.
Aryan Shah will be the reserve player in the team. Ashutosh Singh will be the new coach when the players take on Sweden on the indoor hard courts at the Royal Tennis Hall in Stockholm. Yash Pandey and Debashish Das will be the physios who will be with the team.
Indian team looking to record milestone win
Ashutosh Singh will hope to make an impression in his first mission in Stockholm next month. He has a powerful squad and when in form they can produce an upset. Singh will look to form a formidable doubles pair which should bring India the crucial point.
The inclusion of Sumit Nagal will be a major boost for the nation. He played four matches for the nation last year and won three of them. Sumit Nagal can provide the crucial point in singles. Meanwhile, Ramanathan secured a win against Pakistan’s Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi in singles during playoffs this year.

Sriram Balaji could do double duty as he secured a win against Pakistan’s Aqeel Khan in February this year. It was the same tie where Niki Poonacha made his Davis Cup debut and defeated Muhammad Shoaib. Meanwhile, Siddharth Vishwakarma and Aryan Shah are set to make their Davis Cup debuts against Sweden.
Head to Head record of India and Sweden in Davis Cup
It will be the sixth meeting between the two nations at the Davis Cup. Sweden have won all their outings so far as India will look to register their first win this time. India have only won two matches against Sweden and both had come on grass courts on Indian soil.
Their first win was recorded when Vijay Amritraj defeated Mats Wilander in the 1985 World Group quarter- finals in the fourth match of the tie. The second win was registered when the pair of Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi defeated Simon Aspelin and Jonas Bjorkman in 2005.
