Novak Djokovic’s Serbia will face Greece at the Davis Cup 2024 World Group 1.
Paris Olympics gold medalist Novak Djokovic is getting prepared for Serbia’s Davis Cup 2024 fixture against Greece. In February, earlier this year, the Serbian tennis team suffered a harsh 0-4 defeat to Slovakia in the qualification stage. With the loss, they dropped down to World Group 1, a lower division of the Davis Cup.
Meanwhile, Greece were promoted to the Davis Cup World Group 1 after a resounding 4-0 win over Romania in qualifiers. Serbia will face European rivals, Greece, who will miss two-time Grand Slam runner-up Stefanos Tsitsipas in the line-up. The 26-year-old is set to miss the competition due to fitness issues.
Tsitsipas said, earlier this week, “Dear friends and supporters of the National Tennis Team. The voice of my heart advised me to strengthen the National Team once again. However, the voice of my body, in an imperative manner, forbids me to compete in the meeting with Serbia for the Davis Cup.”
Serbia are the top seed in the group while Greece are unseeded. Due to the absence of Stefanos Tsitsipas, the team will face a lot of problems facing Serbia, especially in singles. The Serbian team has a starry lineup for singles, including the names of Novak Djokovic, Miomir Kecmanovic, Dusan Lajovic and Hamad Medjedovic.
Meanwhile, the singles players of Greece, namely, Aristotelis Thanos, Ioannis Xilas, and Petros Tsitsipas, are all ranked out of the top 500. As a result, it seems like the Serbian tennis team will secure a comfortable victory over their unseeded rivals.

However, Djokovic is aiming to give his best performance at the Davis Cup. The 24-time Grand Slam champion took to social media and uploaded a small video clip, where he can be seen practising ahead of the match. He captioned the video of X (formerly Twitter), “Davis Cup. Tim Srbija. Idemooo!”
In 2024, Djokovic has only won the Olympic gold. Most recently, the Serb was eliminated by Australia’s Alexei Popyrin in the third round of the US Open 2024. He arrived at the Flushing Meadows after missing the Canadian Open and the Cincinnati Masters.
Additionally, he failed to defend his title at the Australian Open and Roland Garros too. He lost his top spot in the ATP rankings to Jannik Sinner of Italy in June, and as of now, he has slipped to the fourth positive. In the ATP Final rankings, he’s currently ninth behind Taylor Fritz, Alex de Minaur, Andrey Rublev and more.
