India will be without Sumit Nagal and Yuki Bhambri.
India’s Davis Cup team finds itself precariously position ahead of its World Group 1 play-off against Togo as the 1987 finalists prepare to face the 73rd-ranked West African nation in New Delhi without Sumit Nagal and Yuki Bhambri.
Captain Rohit Rajpal’s squad, while still favoured, appears more vulnerable without its top singles and doubles specialists and the responsibility now falls to Sasikumar Mukund, India’s highest-ranked singles player in the tie, and doubles veteran Sriram Balaji to maintain India’s historic Davis Cup legacy.
Moving to the trajectories of both these sides—India, after dominating Pakistan 4-0, suffered a reversal of fortune in a crushing defeat to Sweden. Meanwhile, Togo has emerged as one of the competition’s most compelling narratives, winning 10 of their last 11 ties, including a statement victory over Latvia.
This tie becomes that more interesting because of the qualification to the 2026 edition is at stake. For India, a three-time finalist with a Davis Cup history stretching back to 1921, it will be about holding its own reputation. For Togo, it appears to go into unknown territory in attempting to further its all-time unique run in international tennis.
