Diya Ramesh is getting trained under coach Rajeev Vijaykumar.

Diya Ramesh won her first qualifying round in the girls singles event at the Australian Open Juniors today beating world number 86 D. Anita Tu of USA in straight sets 7-5, 6-2.

Diya of the Next Level programme, an initiative of Tamil Nadu Tennis Association and supported by Bajaj Finserv played some exceptionally good aggressive tennis right from the start and did not allow her opponent to settle into her rhythm.

She was up 5-2 in the first set when the opponent showed signs of fighting back to level the score at 5-5. Diya managed to hang on and win the set 7-5.

Diya got off to a flying start in the second holding her serve and breaking her opponents to go up 2-0. She maintained the aggressive style of play and kept the pressure on the opponent and won the second at 6-2.

Rajeev Vijaykumar, who travelled with her as coach said “Diya was continuously aggressive and focused. This win will substantially increase her confidence level to do well”.
