Navarro saved two match-points to prevent an upset in the second round.
Emma Navarro entered the Tennis Paradise after winning her first title of the 2025 calendar year, at the WTA Merida Open. Though the American’s title run came up against a string of lower ranked players, it will certainly do Navarro’s confidence a world of good.
The World No. #8 survived a huge upset against Sorana Cirstea in the first round, which involved a magical comeback despite being two match points down at one stage. For a fourth-round berth, the American will face Donna Vekic, who has struggled for form this season.
The Croatian entered the Indian Wells Open 2025 on the back of four straight opening round defeats. Having already reached her career-best at Indian Wells after just one victory, Vekic will hope to turn around her fortune in what promises to be an epic battle in the third round.

Preview
Vekic has never made it past the second round previously in California. After receiving a bye in the initial round, the 19th seed brushed aside Elina Avanesyan in straight sets. The route was far more challenging for Navarro who was made to toil hard before emerging victorious in the tiebreak.
The Croatian was the winner of the pair’s only encounter at the 2023 Monterrey competition. Vekic was highly impressive last year, with notable achievements including, the semi-finals run at Wimbledon and an Olympic silver medal.
As she hopes to find her winning form once again, a maiden Indian Wells fourth round is at stake. Eighth seeded Navarro, who won her career’s second title recently in Merida, will be looking to continue her good form on home soil.

Prediction
Both players are extremely versatile and are expected to produce a thrilling contest. However, their recent forms are contrasting. On one hand, Navarro has won all her past five games, while Vekic entered the event on the back of four consecutive losses.
Vekic on her day, could prove to be a handful for any player as she possesses the rare combination of aggression and defence. But with a 5-9 record at Indian Wells (before this year), not a lot seem to be going in favor of the Croatian.
Navarro appears to be the likelier candidate on paper to win this battle, but an in-form Vekic can certainly make life difficult for the American.
Result: Emma Navarro will win in three sets.
