Emma Navarro won her second, and easily the most significant title of her career, at the 2025 WTA Merida Open, a WTA-500 event. Entering the tournament as the top seed, most expected her to go the distance. The path became clearer for the American, after second seed Paula Badosa was forced to withdraw due to a back injury.
Navarro’s heroics saw her gain massive strides on the WTA rankings table, as she reclaimed the 10th spot. It was a seamless run for the American, who did not drop a single set in her path to glory. Her campaign highlights involved dominant victories, including the win over defending champion Zeynep Sönmez.
The 23-year-old achieved a stunning double-bagel during the final match against Emiliana Arango, further highlighting her dominance. The focus for the American is to continue this excellent form with the all-important Indian Wells 2025 fast approaching.

WTA Merida Open 2025 prize money breakdown
WTA Merida Open 2025 champion Emma Navarro took home a massive $164,000 while runner-up Emiliana Arango earned $101,000. Meanwhile, semi-finalists Daria Saville and Elina Avanesyan were awarded $59,000 each for their impressive run.
Second seed Paula Badosa, defending champion Zeynep Sonmez, Maya Joint, and Rebecca Sramkova, each earned $28,695 for their quarter-final finish at the WTA 500 tournament.
Third seed Beatriz Haddad Maia, fifth seed Donna Vekic, Petra Martic, Anhelina Kalinina, and others, who were knocked out in the second round, received $15,700 each.
Meanwhile, players who exited in the opening round of the 2025 Dubai Open—including sixth seed Marta Kostyuk, seventh seed Magdalena Frech, Sloane Stephens, eighth seed Maria Sakkari, and more—all earned $11,300.
WTA Merida Open 2025 points breakdown
The Merida Open 2025 event was a WTA-500 competition. Hence, Navarro claimed 500 points. As a result, the American broke into the top-10 WTA rankings and currently occupies the tenth position. Runner-up Arango too fetched massive gains, winning 330 points.
Both semifinalists including Saville and Avanesyan will earn 200 points, while quarterfinalists will receive 100 points. Players eliminated in the opening round leave empty-handed, while those who exit in the second round collect just 50 points.
