Emma Navarro steps in as the top seed at the WTA Merida Open 2025.

The Merida Open is a recent addition to the WTA calendar. Founded in 2023 as a WTA 250 event, it has been re-classified as a WTA 500 tournament in 2025. Alongside the WTA 205 ATX Open, the WTA Merida Open 2025 is one of two hard-court tournaments leading up to Indian Wells.

Italy’s Camila Giorgi won the first edition, while Turkish player Zeynep Sonmez lifted the trophy last season. Sonmez will be returning to Mexico to defend her title as a wild card. Emma Navarro, Paula Badosa, and Beatriz Haddad Maia are the top three seeds. Navarro and Badosa reached the last eight and the last four at the 2025 Australian Open. Haddad Maia won the Korea Open last season, besides making it to the US Open quarterfinals.
