The Merida Open 2025 Akron is a WTA 500 tournament played on outdoor hardcourts as part of the 2025 WTA Tour. This is the third edition of the Merida Open, which got upgraded from WTA 250 to WTA 500 status and moved to its new date to fill the vacancy generated by the cancellation of the San Diego Open.

Emma Navarro will enter the competition as the top seed, while Australian Open 2025 finalist Paula Badosa is seeded second. No player from the top eight of the WTA rankings will feature in this competition. Anna Kalinskaya, who was eliminated from the first round of the Dubai Open will pose as another serious contender for the title in Mexico.

Donna Vekic, too, suffered an opening-round defeat at the hands of Sofia Kenin in Dubai. The Croatian had a breakthrough season last year but has yet to hit the ground running in 2025.
