Iga Swiatek will play her first match at the 2024 French Open against Léolia Jeanjean.

Polish tennis star Iga Swiatek has been astounding on the red dirt in 2024. After losing to World No. 4 Elena Rybakina in the semi-final of the Stuttgart Open, she is unbeaten on the Tour.

She won the WTA 1000 Madrid Open, stunning defending champion Aryna Sabalenka in the marathon final, which lasted around three hours. Interestingly, she faced Sabalenka in the final of the 2024 Italian Open too and the result turned out to be the same.

Iga Swiatek is also a three-time Roland-Garros champion and she’s positive about another French Open title in the ongoing campaign. Thus, without further ado, let’s take a look at Iga Swiatek’s projected path to the 2024 French Open final:

First Round: Léolia Jeanjean

Iga Swiatek will face home hope Léolia Jeanjean in her first match at the 2024 French Open. Jeanjean is currently 102 in the WTA rankings; however, her best finish in a Grand Slam has come at Roland-Garros. In 2022, she reached the third round of the competition, eventually losing to Romania’s Irina-Camelia Begu. The 2022 edition of the French Open was also won by Iga Swiatek.

Second Round: Naomi Osaka

Iga Swiatek can potentially face a returning Naomi Osaka in the second round at the 2024 Roland-Garros. Osaka, a four-time Grand Slam champion, has struggled to make her return to the Tour after her pregnancy. However, against a fellow Grand Slam champion, Osaka would have a good opportunity to get into her old form but it’s unlikely.

Third Round: Veronika Kudermetova

Former World No. 9, Veronika Kudermetova will commence her campaign against Czech tennis player Marie Bouzková. However, with her experience and composure, Kudermetova is expected to be Swiatek’s third round opponent. In 2022, the Russian tennis star reached the quarter-finals at Roland Garros, where she lost against Daria Kasatkina.

Fourth Round: Barbora Krejcikova

Iga Swiatek is expected to cross paths with 2021 French Open champion Barbora Krejcikova in the fourth round. Seeded 24th, Krejcikova’s career has been heavily affected by injuries and her ill health. As a result, she was at the peak of her form for a relatively short period.

Quarter-final: Danielle Collins

Danielle Collins has been brilliant on clay this season. The in-form American tennis star has only lost three out of her last 16 matches on the Tour. Earlier this year, she faced Iga Swiatek at the Australian Open 2024 in the second round. Danielle Collins also won a set against the World No. 1, but failed to win the match. Thus, she might be eying redemption if she again faces Swiatek.

Semi-final: Jelena Ostapenko

Jelena Ostapenko has faced Iga Swiatek four times on the WTA Tour and has won all four. However, they’re yet to play against each other on clay. Ostapenko won the French Open in 2017 and she’d be looking forward to winning her second Grand Slam title. Coco Guaff is also a worthy candidate; however, with a Grand Slam title to her name, Jelena Ostapenko has been superior on the red dirt.

Final: Aryna Sabalenka

Iga Swiatek might face Aryna Sabalenka for the third time in a clay final in the same season. They have already faced each other in the final of the Madrid Open and the Italian Open, with Swiatek winning both. Sabalenka reached the semi-final of Roland-Garros last season, where she lost against Karolina Muchova. However, this time, they’re likely to face each other in the summit clash.
