Goran Ivanisevic lashes out at Stefanos Tsitsipas after his early exit from Wimbledon 2025

Stefanos Tsitsipas is currently facing many problems both on and off the court.
Stefanos Tsitsipas crashed out of Wimbledon 2025 in the first round after losing to Valentin Royer. After dropping the first two sets, the Greek tennis player handed a walkover to the Frenchman, marking his exit from the top 25 ATP rankings.
After the loss, Tsitsipas admitted about his poor fitness and revealed there is “no point to competing” currently.
“It’s something that I’ve been dealing with for many years now, my lower left side back,” Tsitsipas said during this post-match press conference. “It’s exactly what Arthur Fils went through the last couple of weeks playing at (Roland Garros). I feel like it can be a very tricky injury.”
Following his early exit, Stefanos Tsitsipas‘ coach Goran Ivanisevic had some harsh words to say to his player. Speaking to SportsKlub, the former Wimbledon champion and current coach of the Greek player openly attacked Tsitsipas for his poor form, fitness, and inability to work hard and re-establish himself as an impressive player.
“It’s a simple situation,” he said. “It’s simple and it’s not simple. I’ve talked to him many times. If he solves some things outside of tennis then he has a chance of being back where he belongs. He’s too good a player to be out of the Top 10. If not, then he has no chance. My duty is to fix some technical things on the court, that’s the easiest thing. This other stuff, he has to fix on his own.”
By “things outside of tennis,” one can only speculate what Ivanisevic was referring to exactly. However, all signs possibly point to the Greek’s personal life and relationships. The former French Open finalist has had a strained relationship with his father and longtime coach, Apostolos Tsitsipas, whom he split from last year after an on-court argument.
Additionally, recent rumors surrounding Tsitsipas’ reported breakup with his girlfriend and fellow tennis player Paula Badosa could also be what the coach was hinting at.
“The desire is there, but he does nothing to improve things. It’s all ‘I want it, I want it’ but I don’t see any progress. He has to find a solution for his back issue. I was shocked. I’ve never seen such a poorly prepared player in my life!
“Me, at my age and with this bad knee, I’m three times in better shape than him. I’m not sure what he was doing in the previous 12 months, but his current shape is poor.”
Goran Ivanisevic has been coaching Stefanos Tsitsipas for just a month, but his recent comments have put their partnership in jeopardy. The Croatian has previously coached Grand Slam winners, including Novak Djokovic and Elena Rybakina.
While Ivanisevic was hoping to help Tsitsipas regain his rhythm, the Greek player’s work ethic and professional attitude left him disappointed. Tsistipas has fallen off the charts drastically over the past few years, and his problems seem to be compounding with every passing tournament.
