Alcaraz will head into Roland Garros as the World No #2.
The three clay Masters 1000 tournaments are complete, and the spotlight now shifts to the second Grand Slam of the season, the French Open. The Italian Open 2025 result was decided by the top two ranked players fittingly, with Carlos Alcaraz putting an absolute masterclass on display to silence the crowd.
Alcaraz’s heroics saw him leapfrog Alexander Zverev to claim the No #2 spot in the rankings. The German needed to successfully defend his title to retain the position but fell to Lorenzo Musetti in the quarter-finals.
While the result may sting for Jannik Sinner, there are still plenty of positives to take away, given it was his first professional event after a three-month injury layoff. The Italian remains firmly atop the rankings, crossing 10,000 points as World No #1.
Jack Draper’s consistency kept him steady at No #5, while Novak Djokovic also held on to No #6 despite skipping the event. Casper Ruud and Holger Rune maintained their spots at No #7 and No #10 respectively. Meanwhile, Lorenzo Musetti and Alex de Minaur swapped positions — the Italian’s semi-final run in Rome lifting him to No #8, while the Australian slipped to No #9 after a fourth-round exit.
