Rybakina is officially the new World No. 1 in WTA rankings, ending Sabalenka’s 99-week reign
Elena Rybakina produced an absolute masterclass in the US Open 2026 final to beat Aryna Sabalenka for the second consecutive time in a Grand Slam title match this season. The Kazakh enjoyed a tremendous campaign in New York to win her third Major and first US Open title.
Rybakina defeated Naomi Osaka in the fourth round and Qinwen Zheng in the quarter-finals to become the new World No. 1 for the first ever time. The Kazakh was guaranteed to finish at the top of the ranking charts once she reached the final four, but she did not stop there.

She then beat Coco Gauff in a thrilling three-set battle before taking down the two-time defending champion Aryna Sabalenka in the championship match.
Amanda Anisimova dropped out of the top 10 after failing to defend the ranking points she earned last season.
Iga Swiatek, meanwhile, slipped to No. 9 after her fourth-round exit and currently sits at No. 10 in the Live Race to WTA Finals, leaving her qualification hopes for the year-end finals hanging by a thread.
