Wim Fissette will be Iga Swiatek’s first non-Polish coach.
Iga Swiatek will be ending the 2024 season by hiring Wim Fissette as her new coach. She took to social media to announce the latest change being made in her team. Swiatek and Fissette will be teaming up ahead of WTA Finals 2024 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. She was last seen playing in the US Open while suffering a exit in the quarterfinals.
Swiatek shared that she is excited to welcome Fissette and hopes that his guidance will further help her in her career. The world No #1 said, ‘I want to say that I’m very excited and looking forward to working with Wim. He seems to have a great attitude, vision and huge experience at a very top level of tennis. It’s always crucial to try and get to know each other better but we’re off to a good start and I can’t wait to compete soon.’
Two weeks ago, Swiatek had confirmed that she had parted ways with Tomasz Wiktorowski. He had joined Swiatek’s team at the end of 2021 season as she went on to win 19 titles including four grand slams under his tenure. Wiktorowski was also voted the WTA’s Coach of the Year in 2023. The split was mutual as mentioned by Swiatek as she had to withdraw from Wuhan Open in order to find a new coach.

Iga Swiatek joins elite list of players to be coached by Wim Fissette
Swiatek will be continuing her journey with Fissette as he is also the first non-Polish coach to join her squad. The Belgian coach has worked with Victoria Azarenka, Kim Clijsters, Simona Halep, Angelique Kerber, and Naomi Osaka.
Fissette was working with Osaka until last month. Their four-year association came to an end despite the Japanese player making a comeback to the WTA tour after her having her first child. Fisette had coached Osaka from 2019 till 2022 and rejoined her team in 2023.
Fissette will now hope to add on to Swiatek’s impressive winning streak on the tour. Her form has been constant this season and has only faced defeat on five instances. The 23-year-old will be next seen competing in the WTA Finals 2024 as she is the defending champion. It will be her fourth appearance in the event and did not drop a set on her way to the title last year.
