Iga Swiatek vs Liudmila Samsonova prediction, betting tips & odds, head-to-head, preview: Wimbledon 2025

Both Iga Swiatek and Liudmila Samsonova are eyeing a maiden semi-final berth at Wimbledon.

Iga Swiatek overcame a shaky start to surge into the Wimbledon quarter-finals, defeating Denmark’s Clara Tauson 6-4, 6-1 in just 65 minutes. Surprisingly allocated Court 1 for her fourth round, Swiatek opened with multiple double faults and dropped her serve twice early on. However, the Pole made sure to break her opponent’s serve, to keep the score tied at 2-2.

She soon found her feet, and became unstoppable, as she served her way through to win comfortably in the end, against ailing Danish. Tauson, who had served the most aces in this year’s women’s tournament and previously beat Elena Rybakina, was neutralized by Swiatek’s improved serve, as she won eight of the last nine games.

Preview

Swiatek’s season has been interesting. She faltered big time on clay, where she was expected to dominate, and as a result dropped out of the top-three of WTA rankings for the first time since 2022. When the odds were stacked against her on grass, she proved everyone wrong, and is now a solid contender to go all the way.

The former World No. 1 is on the cusp of doing something she has never done before. A remarkable maiden Wimbledon semi-final berth awaits her, but the task at hand won’t be easy, as she faces Liudmila Samsonova in the quarters.

The Russian started her grass season with an opening round in Libema, but announced herself to the tennis fraternity in Berlin. Samsonova defeated Naomi Osaka, World No. 3 Jessica Pegula, Amanda Anisimova, beforel losing to Wang in the semi-finals.

At SW19 this year, she effortlessly dispatched the in-form Maya Joint — fresh off her Eastbourne title just three days earlier, in straight sets. The 26-year-old then overcame World No. 16 Daria Kasatkina in the third round, making her one of the few players yet to drop a set this tournament.

These impressive stats and the high-profile names she has defeated suggest that Swiatek faces a truly challenging battle on Wednesday. The five-time Grand Slam winner will have a psychological boost though, as she is yet to lose to the Russian, having contested four times. They last met at US Open 2024, where the Pole won in straight sets.

Match prediction

It is World No. 8 vs 19 at Wimbledon 2025 quarter-final. The winner of this clash can have a big say on who goes on to play the final. It is new territory for both these players, who are vying for a maiden semi-final berth. Generally, Swiatek tends to falter at these stages, which has been the trend as far as the Pole is concerned.

While she has not had a poor tournament, she has found very little success in the back end of competitions. However, there is something which feels different this time. With nearly no pressure to hold her back, Swiatek has found a new gear on court, hammering some of the quickest serves of her career, out-mastering some of the heaviest ball strikers on tour.

Samsonova has the capability to defeat higher ranked opponents, and has had a near-perfect campaign at SW19 so far. However, Iga Swiatek’s impenetrable defense, coupled with her improved serving and rapid footwork, makes her a favorite to emerge victorious.

Result: Iga Swiatek to win in three sets.
