Iga Swiatek is the fifth-youngest player to complete 100 weeks as WTA World No. 1.
Polish tennis star Iga Swiatek completed 100 weeks as the WTA World No. 1 on Monday (April 22). Swiatek also becomes the fifth-youngest woman to reach the milestone.
In April 2022, Iga Swiatek reached the top ranking for the first time after winning the Miami Open, replacing Australia’s Ashleigh Barty, who announced her retirement from the sport following her Australian Open victory. Since then, the 22-year-old has largely maintained her position at the top, briefly being displaced by Aryna Sabalenka for two months from September to November 2023
The Polish tennis star also has the longest winning streak of 37 matches in the 21st century on the WTA tour, which started in February 2022 after she lost against Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko in the second round of the Dubai Tennis Championships.

In the same year, Iga Swiatek completed the “Sunshine Double” by winning Indian Wells and Miami Open back-to-back, becoming only the fourth woman in tennis history to achieve the feat. Swiatek joined an elite list that includes tennis legends Steffi Graf, Kim Clijsters and Victoria Azarenka.
The 22-year-old is already a four-time Grand Slam champion and enters the 2024 French Open as the defending champion. She was also nominated for the 2024 Laureus Sportswoman of the Year award alongside Shericka Jackson, Faith Kipyegon, Sha’Carri Richardson, Aitana Bonmatí and Mikaela Shiffrin. However, the award was ultimately won by Spanish football player Aitana Bonmatí.
Most recently, Iga Swiatek reached the semi-finals of the Stuttgart Open as the top seed. However, she was eventually eliminated by Elena Rybakina with scores of 6-3, 4-6, and 6-3. Swiatek’s next targets will be the upcoming WTA 1000 events with the Madrid Open and the Italian Open, before the French Open gets underway at the end of May.
