The winners in both Boys’ and Girls’ draws will earn direct entry into main draw of French Open Junior tournament next year
Indian tennis will ignite new hopes into the iconic red clay courts of Asia this October, as three Indians will be seen in action at the prestigious Roland-Garros Junior Series, which is set to return for its second edition from 13th to 19th October.
Hursh Patel, the 16-year-old Asia No.1 in his age-group, received a wild card for the event while Tavish Pahwa got direct entry and Yashwin Dahiya qualified based on his performance at the qualifying event in China.
The Indian trio’s participation stands as a testament to FFT’s long-term vision of creating new pathways for Asia’s most promising juniors.
The winners in both the boys’ and girls’ draws will earn direct entry into the main draw of the Roland-Garros Juniors Tournament 2026 in Paris, one of the most prestigious junior events in world tennis.
For India, this offers a rare and direct gateway to the iconic tennis court of Paris, where legends of the sport have created history.
Carrying forward the energy of its inaugural year in 2024, the Tokyo edition stands as proof of the tournament’s growing significance and has left an everlasting mark on junior tennis in Asia.
Ryo Tabata, who finished runner-up in Tokyo last year, went on to reach the semi-finals of the Roland-Garros Juniors Tournament 2025 in Paris, bringing to light how the series can transform local potential into global success.
His journey illustrates what may lie ahead for rising stars from India, whose early international exposure can translate into breakthrough performances at the pinnacle of the sport.
This edition invites 32 under-16-year-old players from across Asia to take part in a competition that challenges, inspires, and transforms. More than just a tournament, it represents a path of emergence, where raw talent begins to develop through experience and growth.
Roland-Garros Junior Series by Renault is founded on the belief that greatness unfolds gradually through effort, development, and perseverance. Organised by FFT in partnership with Asian Tennis Federation (ATF) and Japan Tennis Association (JTA), the selection was determined by ITF World Tennis Tour Junior rankings, regional qualifiers in Kazakhstan and China, and the wildcard invitations from FFT, ATF, and JTA.
Eligible players must be born on or after 1st January 2009 and must have turned 13 by 31st May 2026. This structured process ensures that the competition brings together both established junior talents and emerging talents from across Asia. Among this selection of the best players across Asia, FFT wildcard has been awarded to India’s Hursh Patel which marks a major milestone for Indian tennis.
Additionally, four players gain their spots from regional qualifiers held at Gorky Tennis Park in Almaty, Kazakhstan (two from West/Central Asia) and Haidian Foreign Language School Hainan Club in Hainan, China (two from South/ Southeast Asia). Both are official Roland-Garros clubs offering premium red clay facilities.
In addition to high-level competition, the 2025 edition introduces a week-long holistic programme for players. The week will open with an exhibition match, Tennis Biyori on October 13th, followed by coaching workshops and a mentorship session led by the tournament ambassador.
The activities are designed to equip players with practical skills, psychological preparation and an exposure to the exacting standards of the pro tour. The opening ceremony will be hosted at Pullman Tokyo Tamachi, the first ever global hotel to reimagine the iconic spirit and legacy of Roland-Garros. A partnership that has since expanded to Rio de Janeiro, Downtown Dubai and Paris Montparnasse.
The competition format will see players divided into round-robin groups from October 15th to the 17th, ensuring every participant gains match play experience. The semi-finals will take place on October 18th, with the finals set for October 19th.
For the first time, the tournament will also feature third-place ranking matches, giving players who fall short of the final another chance to gain ATF junior ranking points, the valuable experience and a sense of pride in representing their countries.
“The second edition of the Roland-Garros Junior Series by Renault in Japan marks a new milestone in our ambition to grow the culture of red clay-court tennis in Asia. This surface demands patience, resilience and creativity —qualities we see shining through in the continent’s rising stars.
We are proud to share this long-term vision with the Asian Tennis Federation and grateful for their strong collaboration. We also sincerely thank our partners for their trust and continued support” said Gilles Moretton, President of FFT.
Roland-Garros Junior Series by Renault is made possible by the support of global sponsors including Renault, Accor, BNP Paribas, Lacoste and Wilson. Fans across India can follow the event’s live streaming with global streaming on the Star Tennis Academy’s official YouTube channel.
For India, Patel’s inclusion is more than a personal achievement, it is a pillar of inspiration to the new generation of juniors striving to make their mark internationally. With exposure to compete and learn from legends of the game this could bring India closer to Roland-Garros tradition.
As the series expands its influence in Asia, India’s role is set to grow stronger and will open doors to more such dynamic emerging talents.
