Two tennis tournaments are held in Maharashtra.

Tennis is catching up in India these days. Competition prize money is going up, but which tournaments pay the most? Which one brings in the top players? Some tennis tournaments, like those from Bengaluru to Mumbai, draw the top players out of the country. They pay huge amounts of important ranking points.

These events are important stepping stones for Indian and foreign players who are trying to make it to the ATP and WTA Tours. Let’s take a look at where the great prizes are available.

5. Delhi Open (ATP Challenger 100) – $100,000

Played on the historic courts of R.K. Khanna Tennis Complex, the Delhi Open has been part of the Indian tennis calendar since 2014. Formerly known as ONGC–GAIL Delhi Open, it’s a part of both the ATP Challenger Tour and ITF Women’s Circuit. The singles winner gets $14,200 and ranking points. This tournament has been a launchpad for many Indian players to play international-level tennis at home.

4. L&T Mumbai Open (WTA 125) – $115,000

Fourth on our list is L&T Mumbai Open! The WTA 125 tournament has a prize purse of $115,000. The winner gets $15,000 and the runner-up gets $8,400. It is played on outdoor hard courts and has helped promote women’s tennis in India.

Over the years, it has attracted rising stars and seasoned professionals and is a key event on the WTA Challenger circuit. This is where Indian women’s tennis gets a stage to shine!

3. Maharashtra Open (ATP Challenger 100) – $160,000

In Pune, the Maharashtra Open has established itself as one of India’s premier ATP Challenger 100 events. Organized by the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association (MSLTA) in association with the Government of Maharashtra, this tournament has a prize pool of $160,000 and the singles champion gets $22,730.

Played at Mhalunge Balewadi Tennis Stadium, this is a big event in the Indian tennis calendar and offers 100 ATP ranking points to the winner. Many a rising star has made their mark here on the international stage.

2. Chennai Open (ATP Challenger 100) – $ 160,000

Chennai has always been the hub of Indian tennis and Chennai Open Challenger continues that legacy. With a total prize fund of $160,000, the singles champion gets $22,730 and 100 ATP ranking points. The tournament has been part of the ATP Challenger Tour since 2018 and it is played on hard courts.

Sumit Nagal won here in 2024 and hence it is a great opportunity for Indian and international players to move up in the ATP rankings.

1. Bengaluru Open (ATP Challenger 125) – $200,000

Topping the list is the Bengaluru Open, the biggest ATP Challenger tournament in India! This tournament includes a purse of 200,000 dollars, making it India’s most prestigious Challenger. The singles winner walks away with an enormous 28,400 dollars and 125 ATP ranking points.

An eminent tournament to entertain in bliss, the crown jewel of India’s early season Hard Court swing at the beautiful KSLTA Tennis Stadium. Notably, it’s very dear to Indian tennis fans as well since home-grown stars like Sumit Nagal (in 2017) and Prajnesh Gunneswaran (in 2018) have had the honour of winning it!
