Aryna Sabalenka also reached the semi-finals of the Italian Open in 2021.
Belarusian tennis star Aryna Sabalenka gave a hilarious interview after she defeated Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko in the quarter-finals of the Italian Open on Wednesday, May 15.
Ostapenko, who looked promising throughout her campaign in Rome, struggled to break Sabalenka’s serve and win service games during her quarter-final fixture. In the first game, the Latvian tennis star managed to force two break-points; however, Aryna Sabalenka was quick to win the next two games and accumulate a score of 4-1.
She sealed the first set with ease. Jelena Ostapenko tried to craft a comeback in the second set, but her attempts were in vain as the two-time Grand Slam champion won the match 6-2, 6-4. After the win, she gave an interview to Prakash Amritraj of the Tennis Channel.
Before the interview, it was revealed that Sabalenka stated that she wouldn’t be using any curse words. However, she did use one during the conversation, which got a hilarious reaction from the tennis star as well as the host.
Aryna Sabalenka said, “I’m on these tournaments to show my daily life. As soon as people start saying, stop it, we’re tired of this bulls***”
Prakash Amritraj started laughing and reminded the Belarusian tennis star that she promised not to use any curse words. He said, “She promised no f-bombs, no cursing, nothing”.
Sabalenka quickly replied, “It’s just something in my blood, I guess; it’s just something in my blood.”

Nevertheless, it ended up becoming a wholesome moment during the interview. Aryna Sabalenka will face Danielle Collins in her semifinal fixture at the Italian Open. Interestingly, Collins’s 15-match unbeaten streak on the WTA tour was also broken by Sabalenka in the fourth round at the 2024 Madrid Open a couple of weeks ago.
Thus, it’s fair to say that the Belarusian tennis star is currently on a mission to win her maiden WTA 1000 title in Rome.
