Aryna Sabalenka will face Mirra Andreeva in quarterfinals at the 2024 Madrid Open.

Belarusian tennis star Aryna Sabalenka defeated Danielle Collins on Monday, April 29, to secure a spot in the quarterfinals at the Madrid Open 2024.

Collins challenged Sabalenka in Madrid, nearly clinching victory in the second set while Sabalenka was serving at 3-4. However, Sabalenka mounted an impressive comeback, winning the match 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in three sets. Despite a strong start in the first set, the 13th seed Collins failed to secure the fourth round match.

Moreover, with the triumph, the World No. 2 has also ended Danielle Collins’ 15-match win streak. Before the Madrid Open, Collins suffered her last defeat in the second round at Indian Wells, where World No. 1 Iga Swiatek beat her in straight sets.

During her streak, she defeated Elena Rybakina, Caroline Garcia, Ons Jabeur, Maria Sakkari and more. In addition to that, she also won the WTA 1000 Miami Open and the Charleston Open. However, her streak was eventually broken by Sabalenka.

Last year in September, Aryna Sabalenka also overtook Iga Swiatek in the WTA Rankings and broke her 75-week streak to become the new World No. 1 for eight weeks. However, Swiatek later reclaimed the top spot and completed 100 weeks as WTA World No. 1 earlier this month.

Next up, Aryna Sabalenka will face Russia’s Mirra Andreeva in the quarterfinal at the 2024 Madrid Open. Andreeva, who is only 17 years old, has defeated Taylor Townsend, Linda Noskova and 2023 Wimbledon champion Markéta Vondroušová on her route to the final. Hence, her match against the former World No. 1 on the red soil will be a worthy contest.
