Swiatek is coming off a title win at the Madrid Open last week.

WTA World No. #1 Iga Swiatek will square off against American tennis player Bernarda Pera in the second round of Italian Open 2024 in Rome. The Polish tennis player has slayed on red soil this season, as she won her third WTA 1000 title in 2024 with the Madrid Open.

Swiatek would hope to dominate against her American opponent and kick-off her campaign in style. Whereas Bernarda had to come through the qualifiers to make it to the main round of the tournament. The American is currently ranked 79th in the world and would face an uphill task against the world-beater.

Having lifted her maiden Madrid Open title, Iga Swiatek will now begin her chase for a third Italian Open trophy. The reigning Australian Open champion was the winner at Rome in the 2021 and 2022 edition Italian Open. However, injury woes diminished her chances to dominate in Rome for the third time.

On the other hand, Bernarda looked unstoppable in the qualifiers. The 29-year-old defeated British player Heather Watson in straight sets to commence her campaign. Bernarda has just dropped one game so far in this tournament. However, her chances of winning against the World No. 1 are minimal.
