'He understands tennis on a natural level' - Anne Hathaway lavishes praise on Jannik Sinner

Jannik Sinner has been on a sensational run in 2024 and has already clinched three titles.

American actress Anne Hathaway has revealed that her favourite sport is tennis and that she has enjoyed watching ATP World No. 2 Jannik Sinner in action.

During a recent interview, the Interstellar actress was asked about her favourite sport. Replying to the question, Anne Hathaway outright said tennis. Adding to the answer, she also lauded Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner. She stated that the 22-year-old Italian understands the game naturally, Moreover, she also heaped praise on Jannik Sinner’s personality and his 2024 Australian Open campaign. Hathaway said:

“My favourite sport is tennis! I enjoy watching Sinner play. (Laughs) He (Jannik) understands tennis on a natural level. His personality on and off the court is inspiring. Sinner’s AO performance was unreal!”

Sinner’s 2024 Australian Open campaign was full of awe-inspiring action and grit. He reached the semifinals without dropping a single set after beating Andrey Rublev and Karen Khachanov in straight sets. In the semi-final, he faced the defending champion, Novak Djokovic, who he beat 6-1, 6-2, 6-7 (6-8), 6-3 to setup a final date with Daniil Medvedev.

Russian Medvedev won the initial two sets in the final, however, Sinner made a spectacular comeback to win his first Grand Slam title 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3.

Sinner continued his brilliant form as he won the ATP Rotterdam and the Maimi Open in February and March. Moreover, at the Indian Wells and the Monte Carlo Masters, he was eliminated in the semi-finals by Carlos Alcaraz and Stefanos Tsitsipas respectively.

The Italian tennis player is seeded first in the Madrid Open and he will be playing his first game at the ATP 1000 event on Thursday (April 25). Ahead of the 1000 ATP event in Madrid, the 22-year-old said on Tuesday (via ATP):

“I don’t want to put pressure on myself. I’m living a very positive moment, winning a lot of matches, I just try to keep going like this. In my mind, I know that I can and have to improve if I want to win more.”
