Jannik Sinner has five, while Carlos Alcaraz has lost seven matches on tour this year.

Russian tennis star Andrey Rublev has become the only player on the tour to beat Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz this year. The 26-year-old has faced injury and health concerns over the last few months; however, Rublev has managed to produce some brilliant performances too.

Rublev started his season with a quarter-final finish at the 2024 Australian Open. In Melbourne, he lost to Sinner in straight sets in the quarterfinals. Interestingly, Rublev has reached the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam on 10 occasions. However, he has failed to get past the quarterfinals on all occasions.

The 26-year-old was struggling to stay in form before the Madrid Open. At the ATP 1000 Masters event, Andrey Rublev defeated Alcaraz 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the quarterfinals. Later, he went on to beat Taylor Fritz and Felix Auger Aliassime in the semifinals and the final, respectively, to win his second Masters title.

However, Alcaraz had returned to action after a forearm injury, and Jannik Sinner withdrew from the quarterfinals due to hip issues. At the 2024 French Open, a disappointed Rublev was eliminated in the third round.

Similarly, the Russian tennis star broke his racquet after he lost in the opening round of the 2024 Wimbledon to qualifier Francisco Comesaña of Argentina. It was later revealed that Rublev had been battling some health issues. Eventually, he pulled out of the 2024 Paris Olympics due to tonsillitis. Sinner also withdrew from the Paris Olympics due to a similar reason.

Andrey Rublev later played at the Citi Open, where he lost to Frances Tiafoe in the quarterfinals. Nevertheless, the 26-year-old pulled a major upset at the 2024 Canadian Open after he defeated top seed Jannik Sinner to reach the semi-finals. He stunned defending champion Sinner 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 to get one step closer to winning his third ATP 1000 Masters title.

In the semifinals, Rublev will face Italy’s Matteo Arnaldi, who has recorded wins over the likes of Karen Khachanov and Kei Nishikori to reach the last four in Montreal. The other semifinal fixture will be played between the winners of Alexander Zverev vs Sebastian Korda and Alexei Popyrin and Hubert Hurkacz.
