ATP World No. #1, Jannik Sinner, is eyeing a maiden Wimbledon crown.
Ahead of Wimbledon 2025, a significant update emerged from World No. 1 Jannik Sinner’s camp that his fitness coach Marco Panichi and physiotherapist Ulises Badio were fired. This is not just another change in the Sinner camp, as the Italian had previously tested positive for doping.
Jannik Sinner had been suspended by the World Anti-Doping Agency, not for deliberately consuming a performance-enhancing drug, but for negligence. Those behind the scenes for any tennis player, are majorly responsible for what their athlete is eating or consuming, and experts say that lack of vigilance from the now-dismissed duo may have contributed to Jannik Sinner’s eventual three-month ban.
Making such a drastic change in your contingent just a few days prior to the all-important All England Club Championships, is never a good sign. When asked about these recent developments, the 23-year-old refused any tension in his camp, and said” “Nothing major happened. Nothing big happened.
“I parted ways not long ago but it’s not affecting me. I feel ready to compete. I feel free. I feel me and my team; we are ready to do the best we can.
“We’ve reached incredible results in the past with them, so obviously huge thanks to them. We did some great job, but I decided to do something different,” added the 23-year-old. Jannik Sinner is eyeing a maiden Wimbledon title this year and is likely to make the top-four.
A potential clash with Novak Djokovic awaits the top seed in the semi-finals, with arch-rival Carlos Alcaraz potentially waiting in the finals. The Spaniard is a two-time defending champion at SW19, and the recent scars of Roland Garros would be fresh for the Italian, who would seek revenge.
“Look, in this sport things can happen. Sometimes a player feels something different, and that’s my case”, Sinner stated, reflecting on the final in Paris.
His only grass-court event this year ended in the round of 16, where he fell to Alexander Bublik in a tight three-set battle at the 2025 Halle Open. Despite the loss, he believes the opportunity to compete on grass before Wimbledon has put him in a strong position, allowing him to adapt to the surface and fine-tune his game ahead of the marquee event.
“I feel good. Especially mentally I feel in a very good spot. Halle was a little bit different. Now it’s gone and I see also the reactions of other players and people, they talked the level (of the French Open final) was very high.
“I feel like that I’m playing great, great tennis on grass. Hopefully I can show this also in the match court”, the Italian opined. He opens his account at Wimbledon 2025 against Italian counterpart Luca Nardi, on July 1.
