Jannik Sinner has become the first Italian tennis star to become the ATP World No. 1.
The ATP recently uploaded a video on their social media accounts where numerous tennis legends congratulated Jannik Sinner for becoming the new ATP World No. #1 in men’s singles division.
In 2024, Novak Djokovic’s campaign on the tour has been forgettable. The Serb has failed to defend his Australian Open and the French Open titles. Moreover, he’s yet to play a final this season. Meanwhile, Jannik Sinner has won three titles this year, especially, the 2024 Australian Open.
After Djokovic withdrew from Roland Garros, Sinner became the first Italian player to reach the World No. #1 ranking. On June 10, with the release of revised rankings, Sinner officially overtook Djokovic to take the top spot.
On the occasion, the official X (formerly Twitter) account of ATP made a compilation of videos from Roger Federer, Daniil Medvedev, Andre Agassi, John McEnroe and more. In the videos, the current and former tennis stars lauded and congratulated the Italian tennis star for reaching the feat.

Daniil Medvedev said, “Hi Jannik, big congratulations on being the new World No. 1. It’s a huge achievement. You deserve it 100%. You have been playing amazing, better than anyone, through the last 365 days. I know how hard you worked for it. So I hope you can enjoy the achievement. And then we’ll see each other on the court. See you.”
Meanwhile, former Swiss tennis star Roger Federer wished the Italian tennis star a successful future. He said, “Hey Jannik, many congratulations also from my side to become World No. #1. I think this is for me personally, maybe the ultimate achievement. And I’m sure you are incredibly happy and you should be so proud.”
Federer added I’m sure, also, Italy is loving you right now as they should being the first Italian tennis player ever, to be World No. #1. It’s incredible, I can’t be happier for you. You’re a great person, a great player, and I wish you only the best for your future, Jannik.”
Apart from Jannik Sinner, Italian tennis star Jasmine Paolini has also climbed up eight spots in the WTA rankings. Thanks to her astounding run at the 2024 French Open, the 28-year-old has entered the top ten rankings, becoming the new World No. #7, leaving the likes of Ons Jabeur, Maria Sakkari, and more behind.
