Preview: Jannik Sinner vs Damir Dzumhur prediction, betting tips & odds, head-to-head: Miami Open 2026

Jannik Sinner will play Dzumhur for his 20th win at Miami.

Damir Dzumhur defeated Ignacio Buse in three sets to play spoilsport in the 21-year-old Peruvian’s maiden appearance at the Miami Open. Dzumhur, a 33-year-old ATP tour veteran, rallied to defeat Ignacio Buse, 6-7(6), 7-6(6), 6-1 in two hours, 38 minutes. The Bosnian booked passage to the second in his first appearance in Miami since 2024.

Dzumhur fought back after losing the first set, capitalising on the unseeded Peruvian’s 51 unforced errors. To his credit, 21-year-old Buse kept pace with his much older rival before running out of steam in the decider.

The Bosnian faces an in-form Jannik Sinner in the second round. Dzumhur’s best result in Miami was a Round of 16 appearance in 2016. A maiden clash with Sinner awaits, with the Italian fresh off a title run in Indian Wells last week.

Sinner is chasing the Sunshine Double in Florida following his title run in California, which he won without dropping a set. His victory in the Indian Wells, where he defeated Daniil Medvedev for the title, was his 100th ATP 1000 win and first title in Southern California.

Preview

Sinner has been blessed with an easy draw at the 2026 Miami Open as he prepares to kick off his campaign against Dzumhur. The Bosnian was stretched to three sets by Ignacio Buse and will be the underdog when he takes on the World No. 2 Italian in the second round.

The earliest Sinner may be tested is in the quarter-final stage, where he could run into defending champion Jakub Mensik. The Czech player got the better of the Italian in the quarter-finals at Doha earlier this year.

In 2026, Sinner will be going for double at the ongoing Miami Open. His breakthrough run at Indian Wells gave him his sixth ATP 1000 trophy. In Florida, he will look to complete the Sunshine Double and become one of seven men to have accomplished the feat.

Only three players have done it since 2000 – Andre Agassi, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.

Match prediction

Sinner arrives at Hard Rock Stadium as the man to beat. The Italian is in Florida, where he will target the elusive “Sunshine Double” after a flawless title run at Indian Wells.

The second-round clash against Dzumhur tilts heavily in the Italian’s favour. With Sinner winning in California, Carlos Alcaraz’s lead is 2,150 points. With 1000 ATP Points up for grabs at the 2026 Miami Open, the venue will be a battleground for the No. 1 spot in the ATP Rankings.

With only four career wins over the ATP Top 10, Dzumhur is unlikely to mount a serious challenge to Sinner in their second-round clash.
