Altmaier beat Tristan Schoolkate 6-3, 6-4 in his first-round match, while Sinner will begin his campaign in the second round. This victory marked Altmaier’s first career win at the Shanghai Masters. With this, he also improved his 2025 record to 17-23 with the win. 

The head-to-head record between Sinner and Altmaier is currently tied at 1-1. While Sinner is the overwhelming favourite, the unpredictability of Altmaier’s game could pose a challenge for the Italian.
