Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka also faced each other in the final of the 2023 Madrid Open.

The stage for the Madrid Open 2024 women’s singles final is set, as defending champion Aryna Sabalenka will face World No. 1 Iga Swiatek on May 4, Saturday.

The women’s draw of the tournament was full of awe-inspiring action; however, the top two seeds managed to secure their respective berths in the final for the second consecutive time. Last year, Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka faced each other in the final in the Spanish capital and the match was eventually won by the Belarusian.

However, with her eyes on the Madrid Open prize, the Pole is not ready to settle for less at the ongoing edition. Iga Swiatek has dropped only 20 games on her route to the final, while Sabalenka has dropped 60 games so far. The two-time Australian Open winner has won only a single match in straight sets, against 17-year-old Mirra Andreeva in the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, the three-time Roland Garros champion has won all matches in straight sets, except the quarterfinal against Beatriz Haddad Maia. Iga Swiatek has looked comfortable on clay, while Sabalenka has faced problems on the red soil.

Iga Swiatek vs Aryna Sabalenka Preview

Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka have enjoyed an interesting path to the final of the 2024 Madrid Open. The Pole tennis star commenced her Madrid Open 2024 campaign against China’s Wang Xiyu. She recorded an easy win over Xiyu before she stunned Romania’s Sorana Cîrstea 6-1, 6-1 in the third round.

Moreover, Sara Sorribes Tormo got a bagel from Swiatek in the Round of 16 as the scoreline read 6-1, 6-0. The World No. 1 lost her only set against Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia in the quarterfinals, but the match was an easy deal for the Pole as she won 4-6, 6-0, 6-2. In the semifinals, she faced Madison Keys, who had taken down the likes of Coco Gauff and Ons Jabeur to reach the semis. However, Keys also didn’t get a chance against Swiatek, as her campaign in the Spanish capital ended 6-1, 6-3.

Meanwhile, Sabalenka had to fight an uphill battle in most of her matches. In her first match, she defeated Magda Linette but made six double faults. Robin Montgomery also won a set against the Belarusian in a tiebreaker, but eventually lost the third round match. In the fourth round, Sabalenka faced Danielle Collins, who was on a 15-match unbeaten streak.

However, Collins’ winning streak was broken by Sabalenka 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. She then faced Russian prodigy Mirra Andreeva in the quarterfinals, where she won in straight sets. Nevertheless, Sabalenka faced her biggest challenge in the semifinals. She was up against World No. 4 Elena Rybakina. Despite losing the first set, the Belarusian tennis star made a spectacular comeback to seal the victory in a tiebreaker.

Interestingly, they faced each other in the final of the 2023 Madrid Open, where Sabalenka recorded the victory. Nevertheless, their last meeting took place at the WTA finals last year, where the Pole tennis star won.

Where and how to watch the live streaming and TV broadcast of Iga Swiatek vs Aryna Sabalenka, Madrid Open 2024, final match in India?

Prediction

Before the 2024 Madrid Open, Aryna Sabalenka had been struggling to win on the WTA Tour since February. She won the first Grand Slam of the year; however, clay has been Iga Swiatek’s favourite surface.

Statistically, the World No. 1 is more likely to ace in the Spanish capital. She has dropped only a single set in her whole campaign. Additionally, she won a total of seven sets with a margin of 6-0 or 6-1.

Meanwhile, Sabalenka has struggled to end a match in straight sets, but she has exhibited her fighting intent and grit to succeed in all her matches. The two tennis stars have been fairly consistent on the tour, but Swiatek has a 3-1 head-to-head record against Sabalenka on clay.

However, nothing can be said in the game of tennis, as a good start can help a player find the way to win, while on a few occasions, a gritty comeback can change the whole scenario.

Prediction: Iga Swiatek to win in straight sets.
