Bopanna surpassed his own record, which he set at Inian Wells last year.

Indian tennis Maestro Rohan Bopanna hits a new high by winning the Miami Open 2024 men’s doubles crown with Matthew Ebden.

Bopanna, 44, previously became the oldest player to win a Grand Slam title after lifting the 2024 Australian Open doubles title. He has now broken his own record as the oldest man ever to win an ATP Masters 1000 title. The Indian initially set this record at the 2023 Indian Wells Masters when he and Matthew Ebden defeated Neal Skupski and Wesley Koolhof in a match that ended 6-3, 2-6, 10-8.

He’s now also the second Indian, after Leander Paes, to make it to the finals of all nine ATP Masters 1000 events and has climbed back to the top spot in the ATP men’s singles chart.

The Indo-Australian pair’s journey at the Miami Open was anything but smooth. Throughout their campaign, they found themselves embroiled in three intense three-set matches en route to clinching the championship.

Bopanna-Ebden began their run by beating Andrea Vavassori and Simone Bolelli 4-6, 7-6 (4), 10-4 in the first round of 32. Next, they won against Jan Zielinski and Hugo Nys 7-5, 7-6(3) in the last 16.

In the quarterfinals, they overcame the team of Sem Verbeek and John Patrick Smith in a 3-6, 7-6, 10-7 battle. They earned their spot in the final by taking down Marcel Granollers of Spain and Horacio Zeballos of Argentina with a 6-1, 6-4 win.

The last game was against Croatia’s Ivan Dodig and America’s Austin Krajicek. Despite a slow start by Bopanna and Ebden in the final, falling 6-7 in the first set, they fought back, winning the next one 6-3. They kept their lead in the third and took the match with a 6-7, 6-3, 10-6 victory to seize the men’s doubles title at the Miami Open 2024.
