This is ninth meeting between both players.
The first semifinal of the Monte Carlo Masters 2024 will feature Stefanos Tsitsipas, a two-time champion, facing off against last year’s semifinalist, Jannik Sinner.
Tsitsipas, the Greek World No. 12, has yet to drop a set in the event. Arriving in the Principality for an event where he claimed back-to-back titles in 2021 and 2022 seems to have propelled Tsitsipas into top form. The 25-year-old Greek aims to secure a third final appearance in Monte Carlo Masters as he prepares to take on Jannik Sinner.
Jannik Sinner dashed Dane Holger Rune’s hopes of reaching a second consecutive Monte Carlo final, securing a 6-4, 6-7(6), 6-3 win to advance to the last four.

Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Jannik Sinner preview
Entering the clay courts of Monaco with an 11-6 record for 2024, Tsitsipas has found his stride. He won all four rounds in straight sets, improving his record to 15-6 as he aims to secure a third Rolex Monte Carlo Masters trophy for his collection. Tsitsipas has extended his lead to eight wins against one loss to the Russian, with the sole defeat occurring at the 2023 Miami Masters.
Jannik Sinner’s quarter-final match against Holger Rune was more challenging. After securing two straight-set victories over Sebastian Korda and Jan-Lennard Struff, he faced a tough battle in his three-setter against Rune. The second-seeded Italian maintained his composure to clinch a 6-4, 6-7(6), 6-3 victory over the Dane.
Sinner had a chance to secure the win in the second set but squandered two match points and had to fend off six breakpoints during his two-hour and forty-minute match.
Head-to-head records
Matches – 8
Stefanos Tsitsipas – 5
Jannik Sinner – 3
The head-to-head between the pair beginning in 2019 saw them trade wins – Tsitsipas took the first win in 2019 at Rome, with Sinner returning the favour a year later at the same venue. Stefanos Tsitsipas then took four straight wins against the Italian, beginning with Barcelona in 2021 and lasting until the 2023 Australian Open.
Sinner has the comfort of bagging two recent wins against Tsitsipas in 2023 at Rotterdam and the year-ending ATP Finals to narrow the Greek’s lead.

Prediction
While Tsitsipas is the more experienced player at 14-3 in Monte Carlo, he comes in with an edge over Sinner’s 7-3 record heading into their semifinal clash. However, Sinner looks unstoppable at the moment.
The Italian has reached his fifth semifinal of the year and boasts a win-loss record of 25-1 in 2024. He has also been consistent in Monaco, having made three consecutive quarterfinal appearances, including in the current edition of the tournament. Tsitsipas, on the other hand, has seen his form dip recently. For the first time since 2019, the Greek finds himself outside the top ten on the ATP tour.
In terms of numbers, Sinner has an advantage over Tsitsipas, winning 94% of his service games compared to the Greek’s 86% in 2024. Sinner has also won a higher percentage of points overall—56% to Tsitsipas’s 52%.
In their first meeting on clay this year, Sinner and Tsitsipas were evenly matched on the surface in 2023. Tsitsipas won 85% of service games, with Sinner not far behind at 81%. Another point in the Italian’s favor is his 4-1 win-loss record against top ten players, while Tsitsipas is at 0-2 against the top ten in 2024.
Sinner, the second seed at Monte Carlo this year, is 20-1 after winning the first set, while Tsitsipas trails at 9-1. The Greek will have to pull out all the stops if he wishes to win his first title of the year and become the first three-time champion since Rafael Nadal.
Result: Jannik Sinner to win in straight sets.
